Since I Stayed Home From School Today

Well, I've been super busy the past week, and I still have much to do today, so I won't do a video for the sake of time... that and I don't feel very well. So I'll do something a little different this time. Being in beauty school has it's advantages, so I'll give some helpful hints for how to take care of your hair. And a few healthy recipes to enjoy food. I LOVE food, and I'm a picky eater, so I promise these are yummy and healthy.

This is for the under 30 year olds! STOP WASHING YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY. Your body is composed of sebacious glands which supply oil to your hair and skin. Oil is looked at as a bad thing, so our immediate response is to get rid of it. Too much oil is a bad thing, but you do need a healthy balance of it. If you wash your face, and don't use moisturizer, your sebaceous glands will overcompensate for the dryness and release more oil to the surface of your skin. The same thing goes for your hair. You need the oils for your hair, but too much of them is a bad thing. If your hair tends to get very oily, especially a day after shampooing, try only conditioning your hair from the ears to your ends. And maybe once a week conditioning scalp to the ends. If you have fine hair, look for shampoo that is made of a clear liquid. Yes it can have a colored tint to it, but you don't want a cream shampoo. ALSO using something like Pantene, or shampoos you can get from the grocery store aren't doing you any favors. If you want to know why, read this article: http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-You-Should-Use-Professional-Hair-Stylist-Products&id=3166403 I have heard this from many other professionals as well, and have seen the same results in my hair when using non-professional products. This is not me trying to sell Aveda... this is me trying to give you healthy hair. By the way, once you hit your 30s, those sebaceous glands won't work as hard, and you'll be wishing you conserved the oils in your hair and face.

Now this IS where I'll talk about an Aveda product. If you're someone that cares about the color in your hair (ex. you don't want the sun giving you natural highlights, or fading your permanent color), try using Aveda's Sun Veil. The great thing about Aveda's products is that they're all (except for the color line, they're only about 97% natural) 100% natural. So if you happen to get anything in your eyes or swallow it, you don't have to call the hospital. Not that I've ever had to do that.... Anyways, you spray it on your hair whenever you're about to go out (like you would for sunscreen) and it will protect your hair from the sun. It won't protect your scalp though... which is a bummer because we could all use SPF for our scalp. But if you care about your hair color, it's a great product to use.

Okay, so if you want your hair to grow take BIOTIN. You can find it at Walgreens or anywhere else someone might carry vitamins. Most people recommend taking pre-natal vitamins, and while they won't hurt you, they aren't what's best for women who aren't pregnant or trying for pregnancy. Also, pre-natal vitamins have not been proven to make hair grow. A more proven fact: once a woman goes through pregnancy, their hair grows at a very fast rate, and even becomes thicker. After having their baby, the hair they grew during the pregnancy then sheds. Biotin is in your body, and helps to bring strength to your nails, hair and skin, and can help the growth of your hair.

Now for the recipes:
Dukan Oat Bran Galette (I have to have 2 tablespoons of Oat Bran a day)
1 egg white
2 tablespoons oat bran
2 tablepoons fat-free plain yogurt
1 teaspoon Splenda (I use about 3 teaspoons which is fine because Splenda has 0 calories)

Beat egg white until foamy. Mix oat bran, yogurt and sweetener (or sugar) until well blended. Add egg white. Pour mixture onto non-stick pan on medium heat. Cook until both sides are medium brown.

Shrimp Sauteed in Herbs
2 pounds of shrimp, peeled, deveined, and rinsed (who knew shrimp had to be deveined? not me.)
4 garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup dry white whine
1/2 fresh lemon

Mix all of the ingredients (excluding lemon) in frying pan, and sautee over medium high heat until shrimp is pink. Serve with lemon.

I've lost more weight, but I'm not sure how much. I've kind of stopped weighing myself. And thank GOD I found a bunch of recipes in the back of this diet book! I was going a little more crazy than usual.

Since I've Run Out Of Things To Say

Stole this from Megan, who stole this from Abby. Yeah, that's right, I steal sometimes.
Ambition: Temporary: to get through 4 months of eating healthy. Permanent: To be selfless and love without playing favoritism (I say permanent, because this might take a lifetime).

Bad Habit: Popping my knuckles, ankles, neck, and back, eating cheese (I'm allergic AND lactose intolerant, and yes it is a habit, because sometimes I don't even realize that I'm doing it), talking to myself out loud, getting embarrassed if I trip and fall when I'm the only one around to witness it... oh wait, it asks for ONE bad habit.
City: Budapest. Hands down, LOVE Budapest. I really like Prague, too. Okay, so I can't narrow things down to only one. But who cares? There will be five of you that read a little bit of this and then move on.

Drink: DR. PEPPER. But right now, it's either Diet Dr. Pepper or water with lemon. Yaaaay diets.

Education: BA in Women's Ministry, Minor in Youth Ministry. On my way to getting my license in cosmetology. 4 MORE MONTHS!

Food: Fried foods... Chick-fil-A has been and always will be the "ish". On the Border has saved my life since I moved from Texas, AND Shipley's Donuts... we WILL be reunited eventually.
Guilty Pleasures: Cheese (we already discussed this) and Jersey Shore. I.LOVE.THAT.SHOW.

Hometown: Does living in Sugar Land, Texas for 17 years mean that's my hometown?
Ice Cream: Coldstone's cotton candy (or cake batter) mixed with cookie dough
Jonesing for: Cereal... cheese ANYTHING BUT WHAT I'M ALLOWED TO EAT. And my hair to be blonde again.

Kryptonite: French fries. And cheese. AND Wal-Mart's cupcakes. It's really kind of easy to please me. And British accents. You could really not be attractive and have a British accent to win me over. That and cologne. I'm a sucker for cologne.

Look-a-like: I'm so original looking, that I have no look-a-like. Until all of the Snow White movies and tv shows started coming out, people said I reminded them of Snow White (pale skin and dark hair will do that). Oh, and a woman that I'm pretty sure was blind asked me if I was Lindsey Lohan. NOT ALL PALE GIRLS LOOK THE SAME.
Movie: Disney Classics. LOVE Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. And I'm really looking forward to The Hunger Games movie that's coming out in March.
Nicknames: Jess... super original, right? Jae... Oh, and I have a friend at school that's calls me "Snausage" (I have no idea why) and "Sun Drop" because I remind her of the girl that drops it like it's hott in the SunDrop commercial. My dad calls me Grasshopper sometimes.

Obsession: DISNEY. DUUUUUHHHH. And Reading. I always have to have a new book to read. And smelling good. I have like 20 different perfumes. You could say that I collect frangrances.
Perfume: Whoa... didn't see that coming. I'd have to say that my favorite right now is Secret Wonderland by Bath and Body Works. It smells SO GOOD. I also like Pure by DKNY a lot, too.
Quirk: Apparently I shrug my shoulders and squirm a lot when something freaks me out. I didn't know I do that until my sophomore year of college and my friends pointed it out to me. I also dance a lot... it's actually kind of embarrassing... for other people to see. Oh yes, and I talk aloud a lot to myself. Sometimes, I don't realize that I'm not alone....

Regrets: The relationships I've had... friends and boyfriends alike. I should have been smarter about them. But the good thing is that I've learned and am able to help others be smart about it. Normally people miss crazy friendships... I say it was foolish of me to stay with them. And not keeping up with dancing (not the kind I was just alking about), because I miss it a lot, and I used to eat pretty healthy when I did it and I WOULDN'T BE IN THIS DIET MESS.
Starbucks: A friend of mine let me try his Mocha Coconut Frappe or something or other... and it was SO GOOD.
Talent: What if you don't have one? Come to think of it, I do have quite the talent of weirding people out.

University: LIBERTY UNIVERSITY, FOOL!
Vacation: Disney. All the way. I would very much like to see Disney Land in California, and the other Disney locations in Paris, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

X: Yeah... I wouldn't know what to put here either. There are no words that start with the letter X. Except for Xavier... that's a cool name.

Years: Have gone by quickly. Maybe I should also say that I will be 23 YEARS old on Wednesday?

Zen: I hate this word, but I'll humor you. A good book, winter time and Disney... anything Disney makes me so very happy.

Wine: No thank you.

Since We All Know Weird People

I have no control of my clients.

Especially the impatient ones. So today I had this woman who wanted a simple haircut. I ALWAYS try to give quality haircuts (even though my knowledge is minimal) rather than rushing through them, but regardless, I finished it 20 minutes earlier than my given time. I was pretty proud of myself.

Well, she came back a few hours later, finding a few problems with the cut. Typical. It's the cuts I always feel so proud about that brings back a visibly irritated customer. I swallowed my pride, and did as she asked (one side of her head is thicker than the other, so I took some bulk out, and some other things that might not make sense to all of you, so I'll stop there). Pretty minor stuff, but she has short hair, and usually people with shorter hair are more particular about the outcome. All I can say is, I have NEVER cared as much for my hair as some of the people that come into my school. I'm so cut out for this career (see what I did there?).

Anyways, I did as my instructor asked, and told the lady that I was going to grab said instructor to check everything out. Well, I guess she got tired of waiting on me AND INTERRUPTED a meeting between the head educator and some random dude to come look at her hair! Mind you, I told this woman that I was going to grab my instructor, I was in plain sight (behind a pillar, but I was in the same room) AND she had been to my school several times before today... so she knew the drill.

I just realized (literally, as I finished typing the last sentence)... that woman is pretty brave. She isn't going to sit around and wait for her hair to be fixed! This is her second time to the school in 6 hours, and she is going to get what she wants NOW. Forget the student working on her hair who needs to learn hence why it's an institute! She's not taking crap from ANYBODY. I could learn a thing or two from her. Lucky for me, the head educator recommended this lady come back to me because I "know what she wants." Good one, head educator.

If you see my hair outside of it's ponytail, you would know how true a statement it is that I really don't care about my hair. Literally the two things I want right now are: for my hair to be past my shoulders again, and for it to be blonde again. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK!?!?!?
