Well, I've been super busy the past week, and I still have much to do today, so I won't do a video for the sake of time... that and I don't feel very well. So I'll do something a little different this time. Being in beauty school has it's advantages, so I'll give some helpful hints for how to take care of your hair. And a few healthy recipes to enjoy food. I LOVE food, and I'm a picky eater, so I promise these are yummy and healthy.
This is for the under 30 year olds! STOP WASHING YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY. Your body is composed of sebacious glands which supply oil to your hair and skin. Oil is looked at as a bad thing, so our immediate response is to get rid of it. Too much oil is a bad thing, but you do need a healthy balance of it. If you wash your face, and don't use moisturizer, your sebaceous glands will overcompensate for the dryness and release more oil to the surface of your skin. The same thing goes for your hair. You need the oils for your hair, but too much of them is a bad thing. If your hair tends to get very oily, especially a day after shampooing, try only conditioning your hair from the ears to your ends. And maybe once a week conditioning scalp to the ends. If you have fine hair, look for shampoo that is made of a clear liquid. Yes it can have a colored tint to it, but you don't want a cream shampoo. ALSO using something like Pantene, or shampoos you can get from the grocery store aren't doing you any favors. If you want to know why, read this article: http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-You-Should-Use-Professional-Hair-Stylist-Products&id=3166403 I have heard this from many other professionals as well, and have seen the same results in my hair when using non-professional products. This is not me trying to sell Aveda... this is me trying to give you healthy hair. By the way, once you hit your 30s, those sebaceous glands won't work as hard, and you'll be wishing you conserved the oils in your hair and face.
Now this IS where I'll talk about an Aveda product. If you're someone that cares about the color in your hair (ex. you don't want the sun giving you natural highlights, or fading your permanent color), try using Aveda's Sun Veil. The great thing about Aveda's products is that they're all (except for the color line, they're only about 97% natural) 100% natural. So if you happen to get anything in your eyes or swallow it, you don't have to call the hospital. Not that I've ever had to do that.... Anyways, you spray it on your hair whenever you're about to go out (like you would for sunscreen) and it will protect your hair from the sun. It won't protect your scalp though... which is a bummer because we could all use SPF for our scalp. But if you care about your hair color, it's a great product to use.
Okay, so if you want your hair to grow take BIOTIN. You can find it at Walgreens or anywhere else someone might carry vitamins. Most people recommend taking pre-natal vitamins, and while they won't hurt you, they aren't what's best for women who aren't pregnant or trying for pregnancy. Also, pre-natal vitamins have not been proven to make hair grow. A more proven fact: once a woman goes through pregnancy, their hair grows at a very fast rate, and even becomes thicker. After having their baby, the hair they grew during the pregnancy then sheds. Biotin is in your body, and helps to bring strength to your nails, hair and skin, and can help the growth of your hair.
Now for the recipes:
Dukan Oat Bran Galette (I have to have 2 tablespoons of Oat Bran a day)
1 egg white
2 tablespoons oat bran
2 tablepoons fat-free plain yogurt
1 teaspoon Splenda (I use about 3 teaspoons which is fine because Splenda has 0 calories)
Beat egg white until foamy. Mix oat bran, yogurt and sweetener (or sugar) until well blended. Add egg white. Pour mixture onto non-stick pan on medium heat. Cook until both sides are medium brown.
Shrimp Sauteed in Herbs
2 pounds of shrimp, peeled, deveined, and rinsed (who knew shrimp had to be deveined? not me.)
4 garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup dry white whine
1/2 fresh lemon
Mix all of the ingredients (excluding lemon) in frying pan, and sautee over medium high heat until shrimp is pink. Serve with lemon.
I've lost more weight, but I'm not sure how much. I've kind of stopped weighing myself. And thank GOD I found a bunch of recipes in the back of this diet book! I was going a little more crazy than usual.
